Do Women Really Earn Less Than Men?
I have never met a woman who actually earns less than her male counterpart. Government stats are composed globally by full-time wage and salary workers. This means the salaries of all women vs the salaries of all men. That doesn’t paint a clear picture.
If we look more closely at specific fields like the medical industry, we still see a salary gap. However, It is not surprising to say that women physicians make less than male physicians because women traditionally choose lower-paying jobs in primary care fields or they choose to work fewer hours. It is likely that female doctors are taking less pay in exchange for regular schedules or other family-friendly benefits. Essentially women trading off some salary for other non-monetary aspects of the job.
Finally if we compare at the individual career level, how much more do men earn when they work the same job and they have similar experience and abilities? Not much according to payscale.com.
